A COLLECTION OF BITS & BOBS

The research and collected information I found from these links to be useful when reclaiming, restoring and protecting our Autistic/Neurodivergent identities, culture and flow.

Trigger warning:  While society transitions from the pathology to neurodiversity paradigms for respectful Neurodivergent neurology, identity and cultural communication to occur, some of the content on the linked websites include the deficit, disorder and negative language and narratives that undermine our Autistic and Neurodivergent identities and culture. As I understand everyone is educated by outdated traditional material (non-autistic and non-neurodivergent informed) from societal systems designed to understand, assist and support us, I can value information that sits right with me despite the deficit descriptions. I can read the information presented without changing what I think and know about our wonderful Autistic and Neurodivergent identity and culture, however, I also understand not everyone is able to do this and to be honest, we shouldn't be placed in a position to do so. However, I understand it will take a shit load of time for a possible collective change (I could be dreaming here!) in attitudes, beliefs, practice and systems. In the meantime, I stick clear of links to abusive practice by people and organisations who promote our neurology as bad and evil. Instead, I focus on what I can do: learn and practice the respectful neurological and cultural language.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

TRADITIONAL OWNERS

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

OUR AUTISTIC/NEURODIVERGENT CULTURE

We acknowledge our LBGTIQ2KA+kin autistic/neurodivergent humans.

We use identity-first language, "I am autistic", opposed to "I'm a person with autism", reflecting Autism at the core of our identity, that Autism is a Spectrum, a part of neurodivergence and not a disorder. We radically embrace and celebrate neurodivergence.

Authoritarian and conforming learning and approaches such as ABA or Applied Behaviour Analysis, treatment or cures, ableism or functioning labels are harmful to both FAN and their child neurodivergent neurologies.

The language that describes neurodivergent neurologies and life experiences as disordered, defective or that to be "fixed, changed and cured" is offensive and harmful to FAN and their child.

ROARHEART™ is not a substitute either inferred or directly to replace any form of treatment participants are currently engaged in. We further suggest that prior to making any changes to current treatment participants discuss this with the practitioner that prescribed the treatment or at least get a second opinion from a suitably qualified and accredited clinician.
