OUR AUTISTIC FOOD CULTURE
WE CATER TO AND TRUST
OUR INTEROCEPTION INTELLIGENCE
AND LISTEN TO OUR BODIES
In all environments such as; home, learning and socialising.
Our neurologies can be tricky when it comes to food.
My child has trickiness with Contamination OCD,
Terrified at times to eat,
In case of poisoning,
Plus an Olfactory System
That governs what they can put into their mouths.
That isn't TOO MUCH for their body.
I, on the other hand,
Love all foods,
[ Except for parsnip ]
As an adult
I have the freedom
To choose what I love.
All the time.
Catering to my Sensory Seeking.
With understanding my neurological limits;
I have a history of disordered eating;
[ Now over 20 years ago ]
These were my less effective ways to regulate
My autistic body,
Were SUPER SUPER hard,
To be free from these subtypes of OCD thinking.
[ I didn't know I had a brilliant autistic mind at the time ]
Restricting food in any way,
What, when or how can be a triggering thing for us PDA'ers.
"Don't tell me what I can or can't eat – I'll show you!"
We are kind and gentle with ourselves.
And practice our loving and accepting approach to FOOD everywhere we go.
WE KNOW OUR BODIES ARE INDIVIDUAL, SO WE;
EAT WHEN WE FEEL HUNGRY
EAT FOOD OUR BODIES FEE LIKE EATING
PAUSE WHEN WE'RE NOT SURE WHAT TO EAT
ACCEPT OURSELVES IF FOOD IS TRICKY FOR US
We eat any time,
What we feel like
Day or night,
Listening carefully to our individual autistic bodies.
Our autistic bodies lead the way.
